Rice Krispie Treats-Helping me make my kids feel special!

If there’s one thing my kids love, it’s snacking. And unfortunately, they think they need to snack 24/7. So one thing I try to do as a mom is limit the amount of “bad” snacks they have. Whether it be snacking at school or at home, I always try to give them a veggie or fruit and then something a little extra to appease both of us.

One of our favorite snacks is Rice Krispie Treats (Did you know they are only 90 calories?). We make them at home at least twice a month (will put our favorite recipe below) and for their school snacks, we buy them pre-packaged. What I love even more is their new packaging. They have sections on the wrapper that allow moms to write our little ones a message, perfect for those who are in school. Just yesterday I wrote “Good Luck on your game today, Go Warriors!” for my son because he had his first home football game that day. He LOVED it!!  My daughter is a very sentimental person and insisted that she keep her wrapper from yesterday…here it is below.

Granted, it isn’t anything special to most people, but for her it lets her know that I’m thinking about her. And making her ( and her brother) feel special is one of my favorite jobs.

Our Rice Krispies Recipe-

3 tablespoons   butter
1 package (10 oz.)   regular marshmallows
2 tablespoons of peanut butter
6 cups   Rice Krispies®

What are your kids favorite snacks?

As for the games, my kids can’t wait to make the Craft Stick Racers, and if time permits, Goofy’s 3D Rescue Truck.  Also, Don’t forget to tune in to the premiere of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Road Rally, September 7th at 7/6c.

Family Fun Night with Mickey Mouse

Now that our lives are settling down and everyone seems to be on a schedule again, we have started implementing “Family Fun Night” again. At least one night a month, we eat dinner together and/or watch a movie or play a game together.

This month (well, the first of September) we are going to be having dinner and watching the new Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Road Rally.

Mickey Mouse Road Rally helps kids learn that friends help friends, and that with teamwork, we can overcome challenges and solve problems. When Mickey announces that we’re all going on a Road Rally, we learn that a rally is a race where everyone wins!  As you follow the Road Rally Map, get ready for special surprises along the way and celebrate the awesome ride.

My kids absolutely LOVE Mickey Mouse (and if I’m being honest, so do I), so they are going to love what I have planned. We have activity placemats and sticker sheets so that we can celebrate the new show, which premieres at 7pm/6c on September 7th.

You and your family can join us in planning an extra special family night by downloading some great printables from Playhouse Disney like Clarabelle’s Map Puzzler, Road Rally Bingo, their very own Road Rally placemat, and much much more.

I believe that Family Night should be a permanent staple in every home as it brings families closer together, so please join us in celebrating Mickey’s new adventure. I may even be back in a day or so to share some recipes with you to help you make the night extra special and fun.

How Many Ways Do I Love Thee

I’m nearing my 2 month anniversary with my phone and I thought that since I’ve had some time to really get to know it, I would tell you some of my favorite features.

I’ve mentioned the apps before, but now I want to talk about the phone itself.

1. Google Maps- this came already on the phone and I am so glad that I have this. I purchased a GPS for my husband last year for Valentines Day and it stayed in my van for almost a year. Then one day, he took it away from me. (insert sad face) No more than a week later, I got lost and had to call him to help get back to somewhere I knew. But now that I have this on my phone, I think that I’ll be able to navigate things myself without having to call my husband to the rescue.

2. The Touch Screen Keypad-I love the touch screen. But I love the touch screen even more when it comes to the dialing. It’s easy, quick, and stylish.

3. Text- I absolutely LOVE how the texts come in IM form. You no longer have to open previous text messages to remember what you and the person were having a conversation about.

4. Email-When I was purchasing the phone, one of the first questions I had was if the phone worked with Yahoo because most of my accounts are from Yahoo. I had heard that the DROID wasn’t compatible (or didn’t like Yahoo) so I wanted to make sure I wasn’t going to have to switch my emails over. Thankfully, it worked with Yahoo and even synced up my folders from each account. I also love how organized the email inboxes are. It’s so easy to check each individual email without worrying that your getting things mixed up.

Honestly, I could go on and on and on about this phone. With most phones, there’s a honeymoon phase where you absolutely love it. Then as time goes on, you start disliking it bit by bit until you are no longer satisfied and are looking for a new phone.

Not with the Palm Pre Plus. It is such a great, user-friendly, sleek, stylish, and functional phone. It truly makes my life easier and even a little more enjoyable. Instead of being stuck in doctors offices with nothing to do, I can whip out my phone and check emails, facebook, twitter, or even play a game.

In a nutshell, I would recommend this phone to anyone. I LOVE IT and I know you would too!

*Note- I received the Palm Pre Plus from Verizon free of charge, along with one month data service so that I could review and blog my opinions about the phone. However, all opinions and views are SOLELY mine and 100% truthful. The love I have for this phone may not be the same love that you would have for this phone but I definitely recommend you give it a try if your looking for a new phone.*

It’s not just a pretty phone

It’s no secret that I love to play on my new Palm Pre Plus.

Playing on Twitter, Facebook, Games, Reading Blogs, etc.

But one thing that I LOVE LOVE LOVE about my new phone is that unlike my old piece of JUNK, my Palm Pre Plus can not only receive the severe weather text messages with live links in them, it also allows me to view them.

I know what your thinking, why is that important to you?

Well, being from the South, severe weather is a big part of my life. Especially during this time of year. And when I say this time of year, I mean today.

My sister and our kids were sitting around after dinner, watching it rain and watching Spongebob, when I received a text message

stating that Shelby County was under a tornado warning. About that same time, the power went off. Had that happened when I had my old phone, I would have went in panic mode trying to figure out where in Shelby Co. the tornado was.

But thanks to my Palm Pre Plus, I was able to click on the link and go straight to the website telling me where in Shelby Co. it was. And guess what, it was right in my back yard.

So as you can see, the Palm Pre Plus is not only a great toy for Mom, it’s also a great tool to help mom keep her family safe. And seeing as how I live in a place that gets tons of Tornado Warnings, I’ll be using this feature a lot, along with my Accuweather app.

However, all opinions and views are SOLELY mine and 100% truthful. Elmo’s Rainbow DVD-A Giveaway

Even though my children are 6 and 4, they still love to sit down on Saturday mornings and watch things like Elmo, Sesame Street, and other great, classic cartoons.  So when I was given the chance to review Elmo’s Rainbow and Other Springtime Stories DVD, I jumped on the chance.

The day the DVD arrived, I was sick and couldn’t have been more thrilled to have something new to entertain my children with.

And now that my Sister and niece are living with us, my niece has adopted this DVD (she’s only 8 months and just loves laughing with Elmo).

This awesome DVD features three stories that will teach kids all about rainbows, the changing of the seasons and bumble bees, just in time for spring!

In this film, Elmo is joined by Baby Bear, Abby, Leela, Gordon and Rosita in his quest to recreate a beautiful rainbow he spotted on Sesame Street. Elmo brings a rainbow of monster friends, Abby tries to make one magically appear and Gordon uses science, all to try to bring the colorful wonder back to the Street. Will they get to see a real rainbow again? The DVD also features a special classic bonus piece featuring the “Cookie Bunny.”

Have a child that loves Elmo? Or know someone who does?

If so, leave a comment below and you will be entered for a chance to win the Elmo’s Rainbow DVD. Winner will be chosen April 1st, so get your entries in quickly.

For additional entries, tweet this giveaway and/or follow me on Facebook at www.twitter.com/sthrnfriedmama.

*I received this DVD free of charge to facilitate my review. I also received an additional DVD to facilitate this giveaway.*

It’s not just an awesome phone…..

Did you know that not only is the Palm Pre Plus the most amazing phone I’ve ever had my hands on, but it’s also an MP3 player too?

Yup, it is!

I no longer have to take my cell phone AND mP3 player with me when I leave the house because now, my phone does both.

All I have to do is plug in the cord to my phone and my music is played right through my van stereo. And when I get a phone call, it automatically shuts the music off so I’m not driving down the road, fumbling with my phone, and trying to get the music to turn off. Good thing too, because it’s not like us Moms need any more distractions while driving. My kids distract me enough.

And just like most MP3 players, all you have to do is add the music from your computer or music store and it automatically organizes your music for you.

It lists the music by genre, artist, song, playlist, and album, making it super simple for you to find what you want to listen to.

I personally like to get a full list of songs and then just hit the shuffle button. This way, I get a variety of music that beats what’s playing on the radio any day.

Is your cell phone this cool? I bet it’s not.

*Note- I received the Palm Pre Plus from Verizon free of charge, along with one month data service so that I could review and blog my opinions about the phone. Have I Mentioned How Awesome This Phone Is?

As I’ve told you a million times already, especially if you follow me on Twitter, I LOVE my phone.

I love all the awesome apps available, the great service I get with Verizon, the ability to multi-task, and do just about anything I want.

One of my favorite things to do on my phone while sitting in carpool is catch up on blog reading. Because let’s face it, I’m always behind on that. I’ve even tried to go through and delete some of the blogs I never read and still, I’m always behind. I blame it on all the awesome blogs that are out there and my inability to only follow a few of them.

How do I do this you ask?

By using the Feeds Free app.

Feeds Free is the ultimate Google Reader client for the Palm WebOS platform. When you read an article on Feeds Free, your Google Reader is automatically updated so you don’t have to deal with deleting them in two different places. You can even email interesting articles or blogs to your friends and family using the app.

Another one of my favorite features on the phone is the Memo Board. Whenever I need to remember something and can’t find a piece of paper and a pen, I can now just grab my phone and “jot it down” so to speak.

Most mornings I sit down with my phone and list all the things I need to do. Then as I do them, I deletethe memo. This way, my notes are always with me (because I can tell you that I have my phone at my side at all times!).

Have this phone and are wondering how I took the screenshots? Just go to what you want to take a screenshot of then hold down the square, SYM, and P button. But beware that it doesn’t warn you it’s taking a screenshot and if you hold it down long, you will take tons of pictures.

*Note- I received the Palm Pre Plus from Verizon free of charge, along with one month data service so that I could review and blog my opinions about the phone. My Picks for Best Apps on the Palm Pre Plus

One thing that made me want the iPhone, along with the internet capabilities, was the apps. It seems like no matter what your looking for or using, there’s an app for it.

And when I heard that this was also a feature on the Palm Pre Plus, I was super excited. As a matter of fact, I think the App Catalog was one of the first places I visited on the phone when I was playing with it in the store.

So, since I know a lot of people that have now purchased the Palm Pre Plus and have had people ask what Apps I use, I thought I would do a Top 5 Must Have Apps List.

  1. Twee- Twee is the premier Twitter client for the Palm WebOS platform. You get notifications whenever someone tweets, mentions you, or sends a direct message. There is a Lite Version that is available for Free (I think), but I definitely recommend spending the $2.99 on the Full Version.
  2. Facebook- If your like me, you are a Facebook addict. And this FREE app let’s you keep in touch with your friends all day.
  3. Picture Tweet- This is a Twitter application that lets you easily tweet a photo from your phone to your Twitter account via Twit Pic. Price-FREE!
  4. Feeds Free- One thing that I’m always behind on is my blog reading. Luckily, with this app, I can whip out my phone whenever I have a few minutes and catch up on some of my friend’s latest blog posts. Price- FREE!
  5. Pandora-With Pandora Radio, you get to personalize your music and stream it directly onto your phone. Once you select an artist or genre, Pandora will create a station that plays music in that category. HOW COOL IS THAT? You get to have a radio on your phone and not have to listen to music that you don’t want! Oh, and did I mention that it’s FREE?!?

There are a few others that I use daily, but these are my MUST haves. Some others that I use are AccuWeather, Where, and Evernote.

Do you have a Palm Pre Plus and know of an app I don’t use that I must try? I’d love to hear from you!

*Note- I received the Palm Pre Plus from Verizon free of charge, along with one month data service so that I could review and blog my opinions about the phone. However, all opinions and views are SOLELY mine and 100% truthful. Reason #2,453 That I Love My Palm Pre Plus

Wednesday, I read on Twitter that the new Web OS update was available on the Palm Pre Plus.

Usually, I will put off updating stuff, but I heard that this particular update was one that you didn’t want to miss out on.

Why you ask?

Well, because along with the calendar and battery life upgrades, came something pretty awesome.

VIDEO CAPABILITY!!!! And not only can you record a video, you can edit it and add it to YouTube or Facebook right from your phone. HOW COOL IS THAT?!?!?!?!

I mean, how awesome is it that I can now just whip out my cell phone anytime my kids do something funny. I no longer can say, “If I had a video camera, I’d record this.” Because let’s face it, my phone is always at my side.

Could this phone get any more awesome? I think not!

In fact, after playing with my phone a few times, my Mother-in-Law even went out and bought one for herself. And you know what, you should too!
